Bruce Dalzell Atherton is an English artist who has devoted his whole life to the pursuit of excellence through painting. Bruce was always greatly influenced by the great masters and in order to further his development, he transferred himself to Rome to continue his studies. There he went on to form part of the artistic movement ‘Neoiconica’ with the prestigious gallery Cannaviello in Milan and began exhibiting at an international level. In 2001 he won the prestigious Targa di argento prize at the XXIII annual international exhibition of fine art in Sulmona. During this time Bruce continued to explore portraiture as a means of developing his figurative skills.
That same year Bruce’s portrait work came to the attention of the Vatican in Rome who asked him to paint a trial portrait of the Pope. The painting proved to be a great success and Bruce went on to become an official portrait artist to the Vatican postulation, completing 13 new images of neo-canonized saints and official portraits.
Bruce is currently living and working in London.
